Japan, a land of rising sun and the people are known for their politeness. Under all those, hides creativity that rarely seen elsewhere. If you think anime is the animated shows of the east and weird anime is the odd child, let me present this musical show to you, if I can even use “musical” to describe this show.

Entering the performance hall, you will be greeted with colourful corridor.

In the middle of Shinjuku, one of the busiest districts in Tokyo, a mysterious and yet colourful restaurant lies underneath the ground. This is the “Robot Restaurant”, a themed restaurant/bar for patrons to enjoy a one and a half hour show while enjoying food and drinks. We entered this restaurant after purchasing our tickets online, sitting among many other tourists, awaiting our show to start.

Audiences awaiting for the show to begin.
Modern J-rock played with traditional Japanese Taiko, not something you would see every day.
You can get really close to the performers and the decorated vehicle.

If you are expecting a typical opening like any other musical, which we did, you will be met with the most energetic but odd opening. Musician dressed in bright colours, playing music on seems like a Japanese Taiko in unison, but the music that was made also seemed to be a modern Japanese Rock (J-Rock). The musicians are all on top of a slow-moving platform, decorated with samurai armours, Taiko is bright and reflective, making the platform oddly attractive.

Dancers performing captivating dance segment, modern and traditional at the same time.

Robotic overlord fighting to claim the land of earth
Now a magical girl fighting on top of a dragon!?

After the highly animated opening, here comes the sci-fi theatre play about magical creatures fighting against robots, as the last line of defence for mankind. You will see snake, beetles and even dragon animatronics fighting against robotic enemies that jump out of a power ranger TV show. Good thing is that all the performance is in English, so you won’t have any trouble to understand the story if there is one to begin with. Despite the simplistic story.

The finale has started with a huge effigy scrolling around.
All the singing and dancing made every single audience hyped up, cheering together.
Everything ended with a huge bang, and it is shiny.

At the end of the second act, audiences are given an intermission break. This allows the audiences to purchase the restaurant specially designed drinks and food, while the performers prepare for the final act. Once the break is done, audiences are being guided back to enjoy the cyberpunk-themed dance segment and finally end the entire theatre show with a festival inspired sing and dance segment. All the audiences were hyped up to the max, everyone was swinging their hands and cheered along with the performers, some even sang along.

All sorts of food and souvenirs can be bought on the push cart.

Once the show ended, everyone will be able to purchase some of their souvenirs, bringing the memory of weirdness back home. This is one visit that you must go, it is all sorts of sensory overload and weirdness to enjoy, something that you will not be able to enjoy anywhere else.

You can visit this restaurant at the address below, but if you want to enjoy the show, you have to purchase tickets online through their website or you can also buy it through Tripadvisor.com

In this article, we will tell you about 5 fascinating underground cities:

You must have heard about the stories of people living in abandoned caves, tunnels and mines. What many of people do not know is the presence of underground cities, which were the actual living place in the past but somehow they got lost under the soil.

1. Coober Pedy, Australia

Overview of the town. credits: flickr

It is a underground city in Australia. In this city, actual people live and serve as the miners. The city is also called ‘Opal Capital of the world’. The city is very fascinating due to the co-existence of mines with shops, homes, and restaurants. Apart from mining, the reason behind this city is to get shelter from extreme heat of Sothern Australia. Despite of being underground, this is a pretty amazing, cozy and friendly place. There is also a graveyard and church in that area.

This underground city is located in the central turkey. There are almost 36 underground cities present at a depth of 85m. Among all, the deepest one is derinkuyu. It was discovered in 1963 with a network of rooms and tunnels just like a regular city. The churches, stables, living quarters, wineries, storage rooms and refectories, everything is present there. In the past, the city had capacity to hold around 20,000 people.

This place was opened for public in 1965 but only 10% area can be accessible by visitors.

Under the streets of Scotland there is a dark world that is linked back to the 18thcentury. The Edinburgh vaults are the chambers constructed in the 19arches. They were built in 1788, that time this was a superstitious place. In that era there was great growth and expansion in the area. However, in today’s world this underground city is still considered haunted and a feel of ghastliness exist there. It is also said that serial killers bury the body of their victims at this place and later they sold these bodies for medical experiments. These chambers were built to place the cobblers, taverns, tradesmen and smelters. Plus, it was for storing the illicit materials.

The presence of waterfalls with underground caves that constant striking do not dig a hole in water.  Some waterfalls flow over a rock for many years that it dig a cave to make a way for water. If the rock was already porous then it gave the way to stream and river water to flow inside. The waterfalls with caves are not very common. They are a miracle of nature. In this article, we’ll tell our readers about some waterfalls with underground caves:

1: Smoo Cave in Durness, Scotland:

This incredible looking cave is very unique from others because it has three different sections which developed separately from each other. The main chamber was developed through sea erosion that is a freshwater passage, second chamber from an underground stream and an inland waterfall chamber.

2: Waiahuaka Sea cave, USA:

It is situated in Hawaii, USA. It is also considered the second largest sea cave and also known as the double door cave. This waterfall cave has an entrance and an exit. The tourists are allowed to have a close-up view but are not allowed to go inside the caverns. A hole in the rood of this big rock allow the water to gush down into beautiful cavern.

3: Ruby Falls, Tennessee, USA:

These caves are located at 1,120 feet underground at the lookout mountain in Tennessee. After going down the chamber, the collected spring water and rainwater pass through the mountain and at the base it joins the Tennessee River. It is a breathtaking view and has been the attraction of tourists for 80 years. Many signers have introduced songs inspired by the extraordinary beauty of this cave.

4: White Scar Cave, Yorkshire:

Do you ever want to go into a divine cave? The white scar cave is heavenly beautiful and is located in Britain. The length of this waterfall cave is 300feet with 90 feet roof that is called Battlefield Cavern. These caves were discovered no long ago in 1923. The sparkling white color waterfalls down into the cave and create a scenic view.

4: La Grotte aux Fees, Valais, Switzerland:

This waterfall is present at dents du midi glacier at the depth of 240ft. It is considered as the highest underground waterfall in a cave. It is also very cold at 10°C. This cave is known as the ‘Cave of Fairies’. It is famous that if you run your hand through the water of cave’s well then your one wish will come true. This cave was discovered a long time ago and in the local, the name means ‘hole of the sheep’. The beauty of this waterfall with the underground cave is undoubtedly fascinating.

Tokyo, one of the biggest and most populated cities in Asia, most certainly one of the most iconic location in Japan. From the crowded but orderly peak hour train, to the maid cafes in Akihabara, Tokyo has shown it can be anything that you can or cannot imagine. Having said that, it also includes food that were ridiculously delicious that you might even rethink about your life. Let me bring you to some of the places to rethink your life.

1. Sushi no midori

Sushi is one of the most iconic Japanese cuisine and there are many of them across the entire country. However, there is one sushi franchise that provided the strongest impression to me, that restaurant is called “Sushi no Midori”. Sushi no Midori has shops in several places around Tokyo and Aichi prefecture, they even opened two restaurant outlets in Hong Kong as well. The shop we visited are located in the fourth floor of Shibuya Mark City, right opposite the JR Shibuya Station.

Even the regular salmon sushi look extremely exquisite.

Klook.com

What really caught many people’s eyes is the incredible freshness of the fishes and other ingredients. You can literally taste the natural sweetness in the raw fish, if you are having the fatty tuna or salmon belly, it will melt in your mouth, leaving only a small tint of the smell of the sea. I would recommend the kaisen-don, the seafood bowl, which you are given the luxury of their best raw fish and in large amount as well. Even their uni, the sea urchins, taste so incredibly fresh and sweet, there isn’t a smallest scent of fishiness in it, proving that the chefs are highly skilled and understand the ingredient fully to bring out the natural taste.

One of the few things that will make you rethink life itself, the premium eel sushi.

One of the most exquisite and delicious sushi in this restaurant, it has to be the premium eel sushi. The eel is shining with the oily glaze and sauce, the fragrance of the BBQ-ed eel slowly enters your nose, stimulating your desire to eat it. Upon putting the eel sushi in your mouth, the tenderness, the freshness and the sweetness of the eel fused into something, along with the rice, into something you can never imagine,

2. Afuri

Afuri, sitting at multiple location around Japan. This outlet is situated in Senganja-ya.

Ramen, one of the most competitive dish in Japan if not THE most competitive dish. Walking down the street and you would be able to spot at least five different ramen shops. In order to stand out from one another, some shops have special kind of ramen instead of the typical pork-based soup ramen, Afuri is exactly that kind of shop. The outlet that we visited is located in Sangenja-ya, not very far away from Shibuya.

Chicken with yuzu broth, tangy noodles, leaving you wanting for more.

Restaurants being spread all over Japan, Afuri’s signature is their Yuzu soup. It is chicken based broth, simmered with yuzu and accompanied with tangy noodle, egg, beetroot and cha-shu. Customers can pick either the shio (salt) or shoyu (Japanese soy sauce) flavour, I picked shio flavour as salt is the best kind of condiment to already delicious ramen. Upon my ramen being served, the fragrance of yuzu emitting out of the soup elevated my soul, all fatigues immediately being lifted away. The perfect combination of the yuzu, chicken broth and salt provided a less oily but strong taste. The noodles are also being handled well enough to retain the tanginess but not overly hard.

Seeing that they also serve roasted pork belly rice and smelling the incredible smell of it, I couldn’t hold onto it and ordered one serving and I wasn’t disappointed by it. The pork fat and the meat itself melts in your mouth, it is in chunk, so children will have no problem enjoying it. The shredded radish gives you a fresh taste and washes away the oily taste that may stay in your mouth.

3. Mutekiya

More than a few dozen hungry customers waiting outside Mutekiya

Let us go to another Ramen restaurant that serves the completely opposite and perfected the pork-based broth, Mutekiya. Surprisingly, Mutekiya has only one shop in Ikubukuro, they stated in their website and other medium that any other “Mutekiyas” are not related to them and this is their only registered shop.

Mutekiya are friendly to tourists and foreigners as well, they even have a list of suggested items if you visit the restaurant for the first time. Despite not my first visit, I still ordered the most popular and my favourite in their menu, “Mutekiya Ramen Nikutama”. This bowl of ramen comes with thick but soft roasted pork, boiled eggs and bamboo shoots. It is not exaggerating that I say thick, the roast pork slices are really thick, but not tough. The taste of pork-based broth has never been so good, it is extremely thick and not oily even if you drink it to the last drop. The noodles are satisfyingly tangy, you will be craving for more. The gyoza that they serve are some of the best that I have ever tasted as well.

Address:

4. Ajikura

Sitting in a back alley between many love hotels and clubs, Ajikura can be missed easily. Credit to Google Street View.

If you are looking for something to fulfil your carnivorous desire, the best food will be BBQ meat. There is one special restaurant in the back alley of Shibuya, surrounded by clubs and love hotels. This restaurant is called Lorem Ipsom, located just right below Bar Armageddon. We came across this restaurant by pure luck, attracted by the smell of BBQ meat and charcoal, we entered the restaurant and immediately noticed the first unique feature of the place. Most of the employees are South East Asians, some of them came from Bangladesh and some even come from India, all of them are fluent in Japanese and English too, so there will not be a problem if you are a foreigner who does not speak Japanese.

The fats in the beef literally glimmer under the light.
The fragrance from the BBQ meat and charcoal really is something to behold.
There is no better combination than BBQ meat and Japanese highball.

The variation of Kobe beef, pork meat and chicken meat, we decided to go for the A3 Kobe beef, pork collar and pork belly meat, and this was a decision well made. The meat was served up, and it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. The oil pattern on the beef is extremely balanced and it even glimmers when the light hit the meat, the pork belly and collar meat seemed normal when it was served. When the meat was placed on the BBQ mesh, that was when the magic happened, incredibly fragrant smell rushes through your nose to your brain. When you put the meat into your mouth, the deliciousness of the meat immediately made me rethink life itself. Accompanied by the Japanese highball, nothing can be compared with this BBQ meat.

Tasman Glacier, the largest glacier in New Zealand, is located at Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. The glacier melts over the years due to global warming, forming the Tasman Lake. You can clearly see how the lake form over the years, and will eventually grow till the Tasman Glacier melts entirely. It is estimated that Tasman Glacier will disappear within the next two decades, and that is something very alarming.

As New Zealand is located near the ozone hole due to its close proximity with the South Pole, the impact of global warming is especially more of an issue to the shrinking glaciers in the region compared to other places, we can see what kind of a problem it may be just by observing at Tasman Lake.

The Tasman Lake, expected to grow up to a maximum length of 16km, is already double of what it is now compared to in 2009.

Back in early 1970s, Tasman Lake did not even exist and there was only several melting ponds, but by 2008, Tasman Lake had been formed and was already 7km in length. The Tasman Glacier is retreating at a rapid rate, just like many glaciers around the globe and the ice cap.

Looking at the half-submerged glacier from the Tasman Lake, I realised how much tears Mother Nature had wept, since the Industrial Revolution, all in the name of advancement of mankind. Subsequent human damage to the environment not only is apparent, but getting more severe as time passes. Climate change is real and it has heavily affected the Earth so much that the landscape has altered, there is a possibility that our future generation may never see the wonders of nature we see today.

However, it is almost our human nature to make the best out of the worst situations. The melting glacier is a tragedy we hope that will be averted, but there is something enjoyable out of it too. The melting glacier formed Tasman lake allows tourist to get close to the huge “ice cube”, to witness the marvel of the natural landscape. You can book a Glacier explore tour boat to explore the Tasman Lake and view the glacier’s terminus face. The lake is up to 245m deep in depth, do take care of your belongings as your tour guide will definitely not risk his life to save your phone or camera!

Iceberg formed from the collapse glacier

By exploring the Tasman Lake, you can already see for yourself how the magnificent Tasman Glacier. If you’re lucky enough, icebergs will form around the lake so you do not have to admire it on the Titanic. These icebergs were form by the chunks of ice that break off from the glacier, making it looks like the ice cube you put into your drink. Do not worry, the tour guide will make sure of your safety during the trip, if it somehow hit one of the ice berg and sank, find a huge door slat for safety, please make sure it is big enough for two people.

The crystal clear iceberg that is not expose to the environment for prolonged periods of time.

You might just be able to taste and touch the icebergs if you are close enough too. If you are lucky enough, you’ll get to chance upon a crystal clear iceberg, formed when it has not been exposed to the atmosphere for prolonged periods of time, turning the ice clear.

However, the boat are not allowed within 1.5km to the 50m tall terminal face of the glacier for safety reasons in the event of ice calving.

New Zealand is filled with incredible natural landscape to witness, the marvel of Mother Nature is one of the best way for you to relax and find peacefulness amongst the busy life style of the city. The Tasman Lake is one of such places where there isn’t a single piece of worry would weighs you down and is absolutely a must visit place for anyone visiting the south island of New Zealand.
